the king in his natural habitat

The annual Twelve Mile 500 is set for it’s 58th running on Saturday July 4, 2020.

Since 1963 “America’s Oldest Lawn Mower” race has been held every July 4th in Twelve Mile, Indiana. The event draws in thousands from across the country to watch the two races.

Pro Tips

If you plan to attend, we suggest you bring lawn chairs at the very least. There are bleachers available to sit in, however most attendees choose to tailgate, set up a canopy, and camp out for the afternoon. We suggest you show up early to establish the perfect spot.

There are usually a few food/beverage vendors there, but you are not discouraged from bringing your own. Adult beverages are okay, but please be responsible, this is a family event. Also, please pick up after yourself, all workers for the event are volunteers, they are not there to pick up after you.

Normally, the cost for entry to the event is $5/per person. For everyone, including volunteers, racers, and vendors. This has always been the policy. However, this year it is a free-will donation. Please be aware that this is the Lions’ Club main fundraiser for the year. Donations are used for park upkeep, street lights in town, and other projects the Lions Club organizes.
